Description: Darmocare Pre is a so-called 'prebiotic' and contains a mixture of inulin and FOS. Fermentation of undigested food components (such as dietary fibre) is an important function of the microflora in the large intestine. The composition of this flora is not static, but varies depending mainly on food consumption and medicine use (such as antibiotics). Tribes living a traditional life consume much more high-fibre foods than Westerners do; hence their intestinal flora is more diverse and contains more bacterial strains. This is because indigestible fibres (such as inulin and FOS) are nutrition for the bacteria in the large intestine. Inulin and FOS (fructooligosaccharides, also called oligofructose) are short chains of glucose and fructose units. Dietary fibre, inulin and oligofructose escape the digestion process in the small intestine and reach the large intestine virtually intact.
